One party a day, the whole house

A private house aboveSagami Bay, at Kawana.

YOUR BASE ABOVE KAWANA

A house to set out from,
and come back to.

Fine furniture, art on the walls, and the sea in the window: time here is meant to be spent quietly.

On a hill above Kawana, on the Izu peninsula: a white clapboard house ringed by lawn and tiled terrace, standing alone between the forest and Sagami Bay. A pool, a Swedish sauna, a glass conservatory and a grand piano. A base for the days you go out to the sea, and for the days you never leave at all.

THE SEA

The sea is in view from anywhere.

The open-air bath at night, walled with rounded boulders, the lamp over the hedge caught on the water

THE OPEN-AIR BATH

Stay in the water and let the night come down.

The open-air bath and the sauna are open until 21:00; the sauna is by reservation.

SIX REASONS TO COME UP THE HILL

What only this house has

Garden pool over the bay

Garden pool over the bay

An outdoor pool ringed by lawn and tiled terrace. The view ahead is open: the water simply continues into the Pacific and Sagami Bay. In summer you can put up a parasol and spend the whole day here.

The glass conservatory

The glass conservatory

A domed conservatory. Beyond the octagon of glass are the pool and the sea; above it, the sky. The brightest room in the house — good for breakfast, and better for reading on a wet afternoon.

A Swedish sauna

A Swedish sauna

A permanent timber-lined Swedish sauna with two tiers of benching, enough for several people at once. Afterwards, step out onto the deck and cool off in the sea air.

A house made for music

A house made for music

A grand piano, a drum kit and guitars. You can play without worrying who hears. Good for a rehearsal weekend, or for one quiet piece at night.

A jacuzzi with a view

A jacuzzi with a view

A jacuzzi set against a wide window: from the water you can see the horizon past the trees. A separate shower room adjoins it.

The corridor

The corridor

The long timber-panelled corridor doubles as a gallery. Framed works line both walls.
